Hello and thank you for stopping by during this month's Stampers Dozen blog hop! We were tasked with creating projects with a Fall theme. When I think of Fall I think of all the beautiful pots of Mums sitting on people's porches. I decided to try and recreate that look in some cards.
I have a Color Combo and Inspiration board on Pinterest and it is always my go-to when searching for color combinations. For these Fall cards I decided to go with a palette of Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Crushed Curry and Old Olive that I found on the Birds Nest Designs blog. Aren't these colors great together?!
For both cards today I used the Color & Contour stamp set. I also used the Natural Wavy trim on one card and the basic Rhinestone jewels on the other. To place an online order or check out the products available from the 2023-2024 Annual catalog, please click on any image to hop over to my online Stampin' Up! store (don't forget to use 2SXNFJ2R* with your online order at checkout through September 30th).
Here is my first card - I started with a piece of Very Vanilla card stock that I had in my scrap pile that already had this circle die cut (whenever I die cut shaped pieces I try to do it in a way I can use the piece later on another project). I decided to create a fun background with the various images from the stamp set and then added a textured piece of Crumb Cake behind to add a cut flower and leaves. To get that textured look, I started with a piece of card stock larger than the hole (it tends to shrink) and lightly misted it with water. Next, I carefully crumpled it up over and over until the fibers in the card stock started to break and I was able to pull it apart into two pieces. The card stock from the inner core of the paper ends up with a soft suede look. This is such a great technique, you should give it a try! I wanted a card that I could send to someone who accomplished something like a promotion, goal, etc. and the sentiment is perfect.
Here is a close-up look at the flower. The image is 2-step - the solid base was stamped first with Crushed Curry ink on a scrap piece of Very Vanilla card stock. Then I over-stamped it with the detail image using Cajun Craze ink. The leaves were stamped with Old Olive and I used a clear Wink of Stella glitter pen to "color" in the leaves. I cut them all out and attached to the crumb cake piece. To add even more bling, I added basic rhinestones to the center of the flower which I had colored with a Dark Calypso Coral stampin' blend marker (did you know that you can do that to get colored rhinestones and pearls?!?).
For the inside of the card I left it simple and stamped the larger flower image with Cajun Craze ink in the lower left corner, leaving plenty of room to write a note.
For my second card I once again used the Color and Contour stamp set but created a tone-on-tone background using Old Olive ink on Old Olive card stock with the flower image. I added texture to this card with the wavy natural trim, which I LOVE!
The sentiment is inked with Night of Navy ink and then I matted the piece with Night of Navy card stock and embellished with a few basic rhinestones
(one was to cover an ink smudge, but you'd never know if I didn't tell you!).
Here is another view of both cards. Which card do you like better? I think this color combination works for both! For more dynamic duo color card inspiration, be sure to follow along on the blog hop using the links below.
