Sunday Fun Day: Petal Park bundle pinwheel tower fun fold card

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  This week over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we are sharing projects made with our favorite bundles from the Spring mini catalog.  Today's card features the Petal Park bundle. You may remember I shared some mini note cards back in this blog post.   Today's card is a fun fold called a pinwheel tower card. I saw it here on Dee Slater's blog and she has a great video to show you how to make it.  If you'd like to know dimensions for this card, please find them further down in this post.

  This card wasn't that difficult to put together once I had everything cut.  Please find the dimensions below.

 

Dimensions:

Base card - 5-3/4" x 4-1/4", scored at 3/4, 1-1/2", 2-1/4" and 3" on the long side of the CS

Additional base card pieces - Three (3) of the same color CS as above 4/1/4" x 2-3/4"

DSP - Four (4) 4" x 2-1/2"

DSP - Four (4) 4" x 1-3/4"

 

 Here are views of each side of the pinwheel. I love how I was able to use so many different patterns from the Regency Park DSP which coordinates beautifully with the Petal Park bundle. Seize the Birthday blog challenge #255 - Use your initials birthday card featuring This Birthday Piggy

 

 

 

  Hello and Happy Friday!  There is a new Seize the Birthday challenge out this week- #255: Use your Initials- and I decided to use the This Birthday Piggy stamp set along with the coordinating Playful Piggy dies set for my birthday card. 

 

 

 

  Every week the theme is to make a birthday card, and there is always an optional "Topping". For this week's challenge it was to use elements on the card that starts with your initials. My initials are D.N. so I used Diagonal Stripes, Die Cuts and Neon Green (Parakeet Party) for this card.

 

 

 

  This is such a fun stamp set and I used images both on the outside and inside (keep reading to see that).  I quickly colored the piggy and cake using my Stampin' Blends markers.  The color palette for this card is Parakeet Party (my Neon green), Balmy Blue and So Saffron. I added some fun diagonal stripes across the background to add some interest and use my D.  The coordinating dies included the fun textured banner - I cut out two from So Saffron card stock and "hung" them across the top of the panel.   For the inside of the card I stamped this cute scooter-riding piggy and included a fun birthday sentiment. I also cut out another banner from Balmy Blue card stock to hang across the top corner of the inside panel.

Biggest Wish blog challenges birthday card

 

 

 

 

  Hello and Happy Monday!  I created today's ombre birthday card using two blog challenges - one is from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge #571 that was released last Monday, and the other is for the CAS on Friday challenge #250.  

 

 

 

 

  Here is the card sketch for FMS571.  The challenge from CAS on Friday was to incorporate an ink splatter on a card. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  I recently saw a card in one of the Facebook groups I am in (sorry, I didn't catch the name and don't think she has a blog) with this stamp set that was stamped in ombre on the card front and I loved it!  So here is my CASE of that look using a different card layout.  The colors of the word "Happy" in order from top to bottom are: Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Pool Party. I inked the word "birthday" with Pacific Point ink, which is also the color of card stock that I used to mat the panel. It is popped up with dimensionals on a Bermuda Bay card base.

  For the second blog challenge I had to use ink splatter on my card. Once I had my sentiments how I wanted them, I then took an old toothbrush, wet it and dipped the bristles in some ink that had pooled in the lid of the Coastal Cabana ink pad. I then carefully splattered it across the stamped panel. It was a bit too wet, so I did have to go back and add ink to the birthday sentiment using a Pacific Point stampin' write marker.  I like how the ink splatter is subtle. I also embellished with a few rhinestone jewels. 

 

 

 

 

  For the inside of the card I pulled out the Adorable Owls stamp set. I was too lazy to go into my craft stash and grab my Stampin' Blends markers so just used the Stampin' Write markers that were on my desk (from coloring in the birthday sentiment).  I have not used these in quite a while to directly color an image, and I have to say that I much prefer the look of coloring with Stampin' Blends. Don't get me wrong, I abolutely love my stampin' write markers, but for other uses like coloring parts of a stamp, fixing a stamping boo boo and other fun techniques. I added a little rhinestone on the top of his birthday hat for fun.

Sunday Fun Day: Dainty Flowers fun fold cards

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  This week over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we are sharing projects made with our favorite DSP from the Spring mini catalog or Sale-a-Bration. I am definitely a HUGE fan of the Dainty Flowers DSP that is an SAB selection with a qualifying $50 order.  You may remember the set of cards and matching notebook that I shared last month (see that post here).  For today's project I decided to use a Diagonal Z-Fold that my new stamping friend Rita shared with me recently (see that blog post by Peggy Noe here).  I did change up the dimensions on my card a teeny bit... I'll share those down below.  This is a 4-1/4" square card that fits in an A2 envelope so won't cost more in postage. I love the designs in this DSP so much I had to make two different cards. This way you can see four of the patterns in this pack. Which is your favorite?

  This card wasn't that difficult to put together once I had everything cut.  Please see the dimensions below. I did change up the smaller card to be square rather than rectangular, so the dimensions are different than in Peggy's post. This picture shows how the card closes. The diagonal was cut from the fold down to a corner, super easy to do with our stampin' trimmer.

 

Dimensions:

Base card - 8-1/2" x 4-1/4", scored at 4-1/4" and cut on an angle from the fold to a corner

DSP - 3-3/4" square, cut in half on the diagonal

Inside panel - 4" x 4" basic white CS

Mini card - 7" x 3-1/2", scored at 3-1/2"

DSP mini card panel - 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"

Inside panel of mini card - 3-1/4" x 3-1/4" basic white CS

Embellish as desired!

 

 

  For this first card I used Rich Razzleberry card stock for my base and mats. The fun little flower was created using the Petal Park builder punch. Check out this blog post here from last month where I showed steps to create one. I used Fresh Freesia and Evening Evergreen card stock from the 2021-2023 In Color collection to create it. The center of the flower is from the Adhesive Backed Milky Dots jewels in the Spring mini catalog. 

 

 

  For this card I went with Old Olive for the card base and mats.  I also paired it with Starry Sky card stock to mat the stamped piece and strip across the front to anchor it.  I stamped the little flower on the piece cut with the Lasting Label punch knowing it would not fully fit on the piece. I then stamped the flower again on a piece of scrap basic white card stock, colored it with the solid image stamps, and then fussy cut it to mount on top. Easy-peasey!

Once Upon a Time blog challenge #7 - My Heart inspired Bouquet of Thanks card

 

 

 

  Hello and Happy Saturday!  There is a new Once Upon a Time challenge out this month - #7 challenge: My Heart - and I decided to use the Bouquet of Thanks stamp set to create my thank you card. 

 

 

 

 

  Here is the inspiration book cover, My Heart by Corrina Luyken, for the February challenge #7.   I really struggled with this one at first, but once I selected the stamp set to use it all kind of came together in a matter of minutes!

 

 

 

 

 

  As you can see, I pulled the color palette from the book cover - shades of gray (basic gray, gray granite and smoky slate) along with so saffron.  I decided to mimic the look by lightly sponging on color using the small blending brush. I started with the lightest color, gray granite, adding color all over the piece of basic white card stock. Next, I sponged on smoky slate ink a little heavier on the bottom third of the card stock. Lastly, I sponged on basic gray on the bottom quarter of the card stock, being heavier handed in the corners and along the bottom. I then inked up my image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink (I like the softer black with this ink pad) and added it to the center of the sponged panel. Because the sponging was lighter at the top, the flowers almost seem like they are colored white.  I then stamped the banner part of the image on a strip of so saffron card stock and fussy cut it to add on top.

  For the inside panel, I simply stamped a small section of the flower image in the lower left corner. Simple but effective and leaving lots of room to write.

Pin#271 - Love Cats hearts birthday card

 

 

 

  Hello and Happy Friday!  There is a new {PIN}spirational challenge out this month - #271 challenge: Birthday Hearts - and I decided to use the Love Cats stamp set once again, but this time for a birthday card to showcase its versatility.  Are you getting tired of seeing this set yet?

 

 

 

 

  Here is the inspiration image for the month that is to be used on a birthday card at the {PIN}spirational challenge  blog.

 

 

 

 

 

  As you can see, I pulled the color palette from the image using basic black and flirty flamingo to make my card. The heart oval was die cut into the basic black card stock using one of the dies from the Framed Florets dies. Unfortunately, this item is currently unavailable due to it being on backorder until late March.  Since the hearts were cut out, I backed it with a slightly smaller piece of flirty flamingo card stock so it would show through. The oval was die cut from another die in the set. I stamped the cute hanging kitty on it using early espresso ink and colored in the heart with a flirty flamingo stampin' write marker. The birthday sentiment is from the Happiness Abounds stamp set. It was easy to line up on the 3/8" wide strip of flirty flamingo card stock since this is a photopolymer set.

  For the inside panel, I stamped another sentiment from the Happiness Abounds stamp set with flirty flamingo ink. The tiny basic black hearts are what were cut from the front panel. These are teeny, but add a nice touch don't you think? I am saving the rest and save them for a shaker card for another day.

TCH #57 - Coral and Sage Beautifully Happy 4-corner birthday card

 

 

  Hello and Happy Thursday!  There is a new Color Hues challenge out this month - TCH #57: Coral and Sage - and I decided to use that color palette to make a card using the Beautifully Happy Sale-a-Bration selection stamp set. Since we don't have a "sage" color I felt like Soft Succulent from the 2021-2023 In Color collection was the closest. I paired it with Calypso Coral in this birthday card. I am really loving this stamp set - coloring is so easy because it is a 2-step stamp set.

  What do you think of this card layout? I was inspired by Dawn Olchefske's 4-corner cards that she has been sharing recently.  I changed mine up a little - since the card is 4-1/4" square, my DSP squares started off as 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" instead of 2" like with her cards. I used the Evening Evergreen DSP plaid design that includes Soft Succulent stripes in the plaid - this is a great pack of designer paper and is on sale now for just $4.60 (see the link below)!  The sentiment was added to a strip of white card stock, which I snipped on one end to form the banner.

  Here is a close-up of the card front. I stamped the middle flower on a piece of scrap card stock, cut it out and mounted it on the card to give it more dimension. Do you see the center? That is one of the milky dots and it works perfectly with this flower.  I love that the solid images used to color the line item images look textured. Because this stamp set is made from photopolymer, it is super-easy to line up the stamps.

 

 

 

   

  For the inside panel, I stamped the smaller flower in the lower left corner and the birthday greeting in the center.  Simple but pretty.

Love Cats Country Gingham Valentine's Day blog challenges card

  Hello and Happy Tuesday!  In my continuing effort to stamp more and participate in blog challenges, I created yet another fun Valentine's Day card featuring the Love Cats stamp set. I think this one will be perfect for my son.... which one in my series has been your favorite? (See them here, here and here)

 

 

  The first blog challenge I participated in for today's project is the Inkspirational Challenges blog. This is a bi-weekly challenge blog. They chose the mood board above as inspiration for Challenge #282. I used the layout as well as the color palette as inspiration for my card.

 

  The second blog challenge I selected to participate in is from Make My Monday Challenge blog. This is a weekly challenge blog and this week's Challenge #193 theme is "Love is in the Air", perfect for this Valentine's Day card! 

 

 

  So how do you think I did?  I wanted to incorporate all three kitty images for this card and managed to just pull it off with this layout. The colors include early espresso (card base and cats) along with real red (card stock mat, colored hearts and sentiment ink) as well as sweet sorbet from the DSP panels.  The sweet sorbet comes off as pink-ish, but not too pink for this more masculine card.

 

 I have had several requests for the dimensions for this card so please find them below:

Sweet Songbirds Christmas card

  Hello and Happy Monday!  I am really  making an effort to stamp more and have decided to start participating in various blog challenges throughout the month. I found three that I used to help me design today's card. It's never too soon to get a jump start on holiday cards, am I right?!  Read on to see which ones inspired me....

 

 

  The first blog challenge I used for my card layout is the Once Upon a Time Challenge blog. They choose a children's book cover as inspiration each month and January's challenge #6 is to use The Snowy Day. 

 

  The second blog challenge I selected for my card inspiration is the Peace On Earth Christmas Challenge blog. They present a bi-monthly challenge using a picture as inspiration. This Challenge #32 inspiration is Christmas birds.

 

  The last blog challenge I selected to participate in is from The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up blog. This is a monthly challenge and January's Challenge #96 is an Anything Goes one. They offer a twist, but I opted not to use it. 

 

 

  So how do you think I did?  I used the book cover for my layout design and in order to incorporate a bird I turned to the Sweet Songbirds bundle.  The Very Best Occasions is the only current stamp set that I have with any Christmas sentiments so it worked out perfectly.  Wondering how I made my "snow" and tree? I used a piece of plain printer paper and cut it in half with a wavy line. That is what I used as my template with a small blending brush along with several ink pads to create the snow: blushing bride, coastal cabana and highland heather. I then used the straight edge and the other piece with the wavy line to sponge on the soft suede ink for the tree. Lastly, I flipped the straight edge and sponged on mango melody for the other side.  I was a huge fan of the sponges that Stampin' Up! used to carry and getting used to using these blending brushes is taking me some time... a light touch is always best and I do dab off first on my grid paper after inking up to remove any excess inks. I always start with the lightest color, and work my way down to the darkest color.

  Here is a close-up of the card front. In order to have the birdie's footsteps through the snow, I used an early espresso stampin' write marker to only ink up the feet and stamped twice before inking in full for her little legs.  Her body and wing were stamped with poppy parade ink and cut out using the coordinating Songbird builder punch. I also stamped her beak with mango melody and cut that out with the punch. Lastly, I added her eyes with early espresso ink.  The banner was stamped using shaded spruce ink, which matches the card stock mat on the card front.  The card base is 8-1/2" x 4-1/4" poppy parade card stock scored in half at 4-1/4" to form a square card. This will fit inside an A2 envelope so you don't have to pay extra postage.  

 

 

  For the inside of the card, I used another sentiment from the Very Best Occasions stamp set and inked it with shaded spruce ink. Since this is a smaller card I decided not to stamp any images inside the card so I would have more room to write.
