Hello and Happy Sunday! For this week's Sunday Fun Day theme over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we are sharing shaped cards. I must admit, this was a struggle for me, but once I embraced it I had a lot of fun creating this Panda card!

My inspiration came from Jennifer McGuire, whose cards I found on Pinterest (see that here). I knew I could create something similar with my Stampin' Up! products so challenged myself to come up with a card template for the panda's body and pulled in some punches to help me with the rest. Can you guess which ones I used?

Did you guess correctly? I used the Double Oval and Strawberry Builder punches - read on to see how I used them. Please click on either photo above to hop over to my Stampin' Up! store to place an order. If ordering online, please be sure to use Host Code S43YYXBG.

To create my template, I took a piece of scrap paper, cut and folded it like a card with a top fold, then free-hand drew a panda. I cut it out (first folding it in half to have symmetry), leaving the top of the ears connected at the fold. Once my template was done, I traced it with a pencil onto the back of piece of thick white card stock for my base card. I cut it out using my paper snips and then embellished it.

For the arms, ears and nose, I used the Strawberry builder punch with basic black card stock (see the pieces above). The nose was cut from the leaf piece (shown with the white gel pen markings). For the eyes, I used the oval from the Double Oval punch. I completed the look with the largest pearls from the Pearls basic jewels. The scalloped oval punch pieces left over were glued to the legs as shown above, and once dry I cut around the edges on the back side of the card front with my paper snips (no waste!).

The large flower (melon mambo card stock), middle flower layer (flirty flamingo card stock) and leaf (granny apple green card stock) were cut using a retired Bigz die (Island Floral). If you have the In The Tropics die set from the Annual Catalog, that would certainly work. The smallest flower (mango melody card stock) was cut using the the Strawberry Builder punch. I added an opal gem to the center for a little pizzazz. I put the flower piece together, then mounted it on the panda's belly with stampin' dimensionals. The arms were also attached with stampin' dimensionals.

Here you can see my rough-drawn template and completed card. I love how this turned out and used the template to make a brown bear birthday card for my brother-in-law. I totally forgot to take a photo of it before popping it in the envelope. Instead of having the bear hold a flower, I used the Double Oval punch to stamp out a Happy Birthday sentiment to link the arms together.

Here's one more look at my card. For even more shaped card ideas and projects, don't forget to hop over to the Sisters in Stamping blog to see what Karla and Rachel created.
Thanks for visiting and have a fabulous week!
