Sunday Fun Day: Saying good-bye to Friends are like Seashells

 

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  This week over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we are featuring retiring products from the 2022-20223 Annual catalog. I am surely going to miss a bunch of the retiring colors and chose to feature several with the Friends are like Seashells stamp set.  Are you tired of my One Sheet Wonders (OSW) yet? These are so fun and easy to put together, so I hope you enjoy this week's project...

 

 

  I stamped a full sheet of basic white card stock with various images from the Friends are Like Seashells stamp set using Bermuda Bay, Blushing Bride, Pacific Point, Sahara Sand and So Saffron ink pads.  Unfortunately, this stamp set is already gone.   To create the stamped sheet, I find it is easiest to start with the largest image and making sure to rotate the paper while stamping, and stamping off the paper to really make it feel like it is a piece of designer paper. Keep filling in with smaller images until you've filled out a full sheet.  For this set of cards, I cut the sheet into a piece 11" x 4-3/4", which I then cut into 3 pieces of 4-3/4" x 3-1/2" with a small strip left over (discarded).  Next, I cut the left over piece into 2 pieces of 5" x 3-3/4" with a small strip left over (also discarded). This gave me 5 pieces total that I could use to make 5 cards. 

 

 

  I mixed and matched the 5 colors of ink used for my card bases (some portrait and some landscape) and just kept it super simple with some sentiments from the stamp set. Sunday Fun Day: Fun with Embossing!

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  This week over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we are featuring embossing techniques.  Did you know that there are three different ways to emboss?  They are: 1) dry embossing (with an embossing folder), 2) heat embossing (using embossing powders and a heat gun) and 3) using embossing paste with a decorative mask. I chose to use embossing folders because I love how quickly and easily they add fantastic texture to a card.  I want to use and feature as many of my retiring products while I still can this month, so I made 3 cards to share with you today. Two of them are Christmas cards and feature the Wintry 3D embossing folders, and the other features the Pretty Flowers embossing folder. Please read on to find out more about each card....

  For these two Christmas cards, I used the Wintry Mix 3D embossing folders along with a color palette of Mint Macaron, Pacific Point, Sahara Sand, Soft Succulent and Soft Suede.  The reindeer were created using Soft Suede CS for the body and Sahara Sand CS for the antlers. I added a Rudolph nose using a Red Rhinestone basic jewel.  The Merry Christmas sentiment is from the Christmas Scottie set that retired from the last Holiday catalog.  Please see below for additional details about each card. 

 

 

  Up first is a card that features the snowflakes folder from the Wintry Mix 3D embossing folder set. As you can see from the close-up in the second photo, the 3D folders really give a deep impression so the texture created is amazing!  The card base of this one was cut from Mint Macaron CS and the Label Me Lovely punch was cut from Soft Succulent CS. I love how these colors go together for a fun untraditional Christmas card.

 

 

   The base of this card is Pacific Point CS, the textured strip is Soft Succulent CS and the punch was cut from Mint Macaron CS. I also added a stip of the Sahara Sand twill ribbon for even more texture and interest. I just love how deeply embossed the fir branches are on this card!

 

 

  And here is the card featuring the Pretty Flowers embossing folder. I added Polished Pink ink to one side of the folder (just swiping it on directly from the ink pad), then carefully added a piece of Polished Pink CS and ran it through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine. The color was transferred onto the card stock and this is the result! So pretty!!  I wanted to really highlight it as the focal point of my card, so I matted it with a piece of basic white CS and attached it to a Bermuda Bay card base with a strip of Mint Macaron CS added to provide some contrast. How did I not know how well Mint Macaron pairs with Bermuda Bay until today?? I then added a quick little sentiment onto a strip of 1/2" wide basic white CS that I cut on an angle and glued to my card. Easy-peasey!  I do have to warn you, this is a MESSY technique. Because our ink pads are water-based dyes, cleaning your embossing folder is as easy as running it under the faucet in your sink to wash away the ink. Getting it off your fingers may be a bit trickier if you don't wash your hands right away!  Ask me how I know that, ha ha.

April 2023 Stampers Dozen Blog Hop: Going, going, gone... my favorite retiring products card set

 

  Check out this fun set of cards I made featuring the retiring (and now unavailable) True Beauty stamp set to create my own "designer paper" that I cut up using a One Sheet Wonder technique to make 7 different cards.  I paired this set with retiring colors Evening Evergreen, Mango Melody, Polished Pink and Soft Succulent along with the Peaceful Moments and Friends are Like Seashells stamp sets; Label Me Lovely, Lovely Labels pick a punch and Rectangular Postage Stamp punches; Penned Flowers die set; and Evening Evergreen Windowpane Check ribbon. Most of these are discounted heavily so get them while you can!

  This is how I stamped my full sheet of basic white card stock that I cut into 2 pieces (one is 4-1/2" wide and the other is 4" wide). I then cut up the 4-1/2" wide piece into three that are 4-1/2" x 3-1/4". I discarded the little strip left over.  For the 4" wide piece, I first cut one piece to 5-1/4" x 4", the next piece is 4" x 4" which I then cut in half diagonally, leaving a strip that is 4" x 2". You'll find photos of the individual cards below...

  Didn't they turn out great? I wanted to leave you with a quick tip... here is how I made the smaller rectangular mat for one of my cards... I started with the rectangular postage piece that I cut out, then attached it to a post-it note and fed it back in, lining up the notches. I then cut it again to make it smaller. This is a great tip for getting more versatility out of your punches!

Sunday Fun Day: Spotlighting technique Cottage Rose card

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  This week over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we are featuring the Spotlighting technique with our cards. It's been a while since I used this technique and I don't know why, because I love it! I am not a huge fan of coloring as many of you know, and using this technique means I don't have to color the entire image!!

  Want to know how I did this? 

• I started with a sheet of basic white card stock cut to 5-1/4" x 4" and one cut to 3-3/4" x 2-1/2". 
• Did you know that Tombow multipurpose adhesive is temporary when you let it dry - it becomes tacky and will hold something in place temporarily, but then you can remove it later with no damage? I used a teeny bit of the liquid adhesive on the back side of the smaller piece of card stock and, once dried and tacky, attached it in the center of the larger piece.
• I inked up my image with Memento Tuxedo black ink (VERY important that you use this ink when planning to color with stampin' blends markers) and stamped in the lower left corner making sure the image overlapped both pieces of card stock.  There will be a halo where the ink doesn't make contact with the paper - that is okay, you'll hide it with your mat.  
• Next, I removed the smaller piece and colored the flower with both Highland Heather stampin' blends as well as the darker Daffodil Delight stampin' blend, colored the leaves and stems with both Old Olive stampin' blends and the tiny flowers with the lighter Daffodil Delight stampin' blend.   
• I then added a mat of basic black card stock cut to 4" x 2-3/4" and then added that to the larger basic white card stock piece, making sure to line up the image.
• I added a few rhinestones and sentiment then put that on a basic black base card.  Easy-peasey!

 

 

  Here is a close-up of the colored flower... such an easy but fun technique!

 

 

   For the inside of the card I simply stamped a portion of the large flower image in the lower left corner, leaving lots of space to write.
