Hi there and welcome to the October 2021 Stampers Dozen Blog Hop! This month we are sharing cards featuring the Chalkboard technique and I thought it would be fun to use the Clever Cats stamp set that I just got in my last order to make a fun Halloween card.
I think this Clever Cats stamp set from the Holiday catalog is so fun for Halloween, lots of non-spooky images and sentiments to use for kids of all ages. The color scheme I am using includes Basic Black along with several of the Brights: Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green and Mango Melody. I used only Whisper White craft ink for the "chalk" and for the inside of the card using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The Black & White 1/4" Gingham ribbon sure is fun! You can color it with stampin' blends, but I left it as is for this card. The added texture on the Gorgeous Grape card stock is from the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder. Be sure to click on any of the images above to visit my Stampin' Up! store to purchase.
Here is a view from above of the card - you can really see the texture and the fun chalkboard effect. To make it look even more like a chalkboard, I took a Q-tip and lightly brushed the Whisper White craft ink in different areas on the basic black card stock. Here's a tip - I was off just a smidge when I added the peeking cat to the top of the jack-o-lantern image. I was able to use a Blender Pen and fill in the blank space easily!
Here is a sideview of the stamped panel where you can really see the smudged chalk look that I was going for - what do you think? Does it look realistic? I just love this little gingham ribbon bow!
For the inside of the card, I kept it super simple and added a few of the fun images from the set using Tuxedo Black ink. Since this is a photopolymer stamp set, that is my go-to ink for black images. Isn't that cat in the corner so funny?!
Here is one last view of my Halloween card featuring the chalkboard technique. I hope I have inspired you to make some cards using this technique. For even more card inspiration and ideas, be sure to check out the other designer's blog posts using the links below.
