Hello and Happy Sunday! For this week's Sunday Fun Day theme over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we created sympathy cards. Sadly, this is a type of card that we will always need. I usually go with a nature-themed stamp set for my sympathy cards, but decided to expand my creativity and use the Sailing Home stamp set to create these cards. I'll be honest, I bought this stamp set thinking it would be great for masculine cards. But I really like the way these turned out for sympathy cards now that I made a few.
In addition to the Crumb Cake, Misty Moonlight and Very Vanilla card stock, I used the Sailing Home stamp set, Label Me Lovely punch and Linen Thread shown above. If you're interested in ordering any of these products, click the photos above to visit my Stampin' Up! store. Please keep reading below to see photos of the individual cards.
Here is another view of my two cards featuring this stamp set and color palette. Both are on the more masculine side and I really love this color combination! Misty Moonlight is an In Color (2020-2022) that I have been using a lot lately - it is such a nice shade of blue!
Here are photos of my first card. For this card I only used soft suede ink for the stamped images/sentiment and sponged every layer with crumb cake ink. I liked the idea of having a knotted rope border and used my retired Stamp-a-ma-jig to line them up on the very vanilla card stock strip. I also created a fun piece of patterned paper using the anchors on the Crumb Cake card stock. The sentiment was cut out using my favorite Label Me Lovely punch. I left the inside of the card blank with only an anchor image in the lower corner to allow for more writing to the recipient. This sentiment works perfectly for someone grieving, but also for someone who is going through a rough time.
For my second card, I wanted to use one of the sailboat images from the stamp set and went with a Very Vanilla card base. I stamped the sailboat and sentiment using Misty Moonlight ink and then stamped the sea gulls and anchor (which I fussy cut) using soft suede ink. Again, I sponged all layers (except the card base) with crumb cake ink. In addition, I added two strips of linen thread to add a nautical feel to the card. There is an anchor stamped on the inside of this card just like the other.
Here is one last look at my card set. Which one is your favorite? I hope I have inspired you to make a sympathy card (or two) using a stamp set that is a little outside the box! Don't forget to hop over to the Sisters in Stamping blog for even more sympathy card ideas and inspiration.
Thanks for visiting and have a fabulous week!
