July Paper Pumpkin - The Adventure Begins!

Sunday Fun Day: 6" x 6" One Sheet Wonder

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  For this week's Sunday Fun Day theme over on the Sisters in Stamping blog, I asked my fellow designers to create a 6" x 6" DSP One Sheet Wonder set of cards. If you aren't familiar with this concept, a One Sheet Wonder is where you stamp a sheet of card stock and then cut it up into multiple pieces to make several cards.  It is even easier when you start with a piece of DSP!  For this challenge I wanted to showcase the great 6" x 6" DSP stacks that Stampin' Up! is now selling. If you don't have any, simply cut a sheet of 12" x 12" DSP into (4) pieces of 6" x 6" sheets and follow the cutting instructions below.  These four cards came together with just a few pieces of card stock, the Tidings of Christmas DSP, the coordinating Tidings & Trimmings stamp set, a few punches and two colors of ink - Cherry Cobbler and Evening Evergreen.

 

 

  With Christmas just 6 months away (can you believe it?!?!?), I wanted to showcase more ideas using the Tidings of Christmas DSP and coordinating Tidings & Trimmings stamp set from the annual catalog. I think the colors are fabulous, love the patterns in the DSP and think the images and sentiments are great! In case you missed it, I also used this Product Suite with my All about the Bling project a few weeks ago.  Two of the new 2021-2023 In Colors are represented in the color palette - Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulents - along with Basic Black, Basic White, Cherry Cobbler and Misty Moonlight.  They're gorgeous together!

 

 

  The cutting template above is how I cut my DSP. I was searching on Pinterest (see my One Sheet Wonder board here) for inspiration and saw this cutting pattern shared on the CardsTV blog.  She made 5 cards with her pieces, I decided to make 4.  

 

 

   Here is what the cut pieces look like when done.  You could easily cut several pieces of the DSP at one time and crank out a lot of Christmas cards in one sitting!!

 

 

  For this card I used the two A (3" x 2") pieces of DSP along with the Everyday Label and Rectangular Postage Stamp punches. The sentiment perfectly fit inside the punch!!

 

 

  For this card I used the two B strips of DSP (the longer piece is flipped over to showcase the other pattern). Each piece was notched using the Banners Pick a Punch and the Noel sentiment was cut out using the scalloped oval from the Double Oval punch. 

 

 

  This third card features the C (3" x 2") piece of DSP along with the Rectangular Postage Stamp punch.  I used the matching die to cut out the stocking, but you could always fussy cut it with Paper Snips.

 

 

  For my last card I used the four D (1-1/2" square) pieces of DSP along with the Tailored Tag punch and smaller oval from the Double Oval punch. I find that punches make these cards come together so quickly!!

 

  Here is a larger photo of the finished card set.  I hope I have inspired you to cut up your 6" x 6" DSP and create some great Christmas cards.  This cutting template works for any DSP and you can even take any stamp set and stamp all over a piece of 6" x 6" card stock to create your own patterned paper.  Don't forget to hop over to the Sisters in Stamping blog for even more One Sheet Wonder ideas and inspiration.

Sunday Fun Day: Designing with Scraps

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  Karla challenged us this week to design a card using scraps for our Sunday Fun Day project over on the Sisters in Stamping blog. I had a lot of scraps that I have been saving/hoarding from the True Love DSP pack that is sadly retiring when the January-June catalog ends on the 30th that I wanted to use.  I also pulled out my folder of scraps from the Brights collection and ended up making these two cards. 

 

  I was looking on Pinterest for some inspiration and saw a bunch of cards using strips of DSP and card stock, so that is how I made my first card.  I cut a piece of basic white card stock 5" x 3-3/4" and just started adding the strips on one by one making sure the white card stock was covered. Once I was done, I trimmed the edges all around and added it to a mat of basic black card stock.  That eventually turned into this card below.

 

 

   The birthday sentiment is from the Oval Occasions stamp set which is also retiring at the end of the month from the January-June catalog. I stamped it on a die cut that I had in my scraps box.

 

 

  How do you store your scraps?  I keep all of my basic white card stock pieces together and store them in a stamp case.  Whenever I cut out a die, I always make sure to cut more than one - whatever I can fit on a piece of card stock - and keep the extras for later. I also end up cutting multiple 5-1/4" x 4" pieces of basic white card stock because I use them so often for the inside of cards with a dark card stock base. In addition, I end up with a lot of 1/2" strips that I also keep here.

 

 

  If you noticed I had a lot of punched pieces in my basic white scrap pile, the above is why. Whenever you sandwich a mat of card stock between a focal panel and your base card, you can punch a few shapes out because it will be hidden between the layers. Not only will this make your card stock go farther, but if you have a lot of layers in your card it will also remove some of the weight - it is a win-win. 

 

 

  And here is my pile of colored card stock punches that I keep in an old stamp case.  These come in handy all the time and can also be used when trying to come up with a color combination.

 

 

  For my second card I used the larger scraps of the True Love DSP and put this one together.  The flower image was whole on one of the scraps, so I fussy cut it and colored it with my Highland Heather and Soft Succulents stampin' blends markers.  The sentiment (also from the Oval Occasions stamp set) was stamped on a piece that I had cut out from the mat of basic white in the photo above and the leaves were colored with the lighter Soft Succulents stampin' blend marker.  The cut/colored flower was added with stampin' dimensionals.

 

 

  I forgot to take photos of the inside of my cards, but both included strips of the DSP also. Here are two more photos of my completed cards. June 2021: Stampers Dozen Blog Hop - Focus on Tools

 

  Hi there and welcome to the June 2021 Stampers Dozen Blog Hop!  This month we are sharing projects that focus on the many invaluable tools that Stampin' Up! offers.  What is your must-have? I know that I can't live without the Simply Scored Scoring Tool! A very obvious use of this tool is to score card stock before cutting it in half to create two card bases, but check out this great gift box I created and the card set to go in it. This makes the perfect gift to give and with very few supplies!

 

 

  Inside the gift box is a set of four blank note cards and sentiments that can be attached as needed. I even embellished/texturized the cards using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. This is a great use of our gorgeous DSP and comes together so easily thanks to this awesome tool!!

  The box is held closed with a beautiful belly band.  Here is a close-up of how I created the pretty flower embellishment.  Check out that super sparkly Genial Gem!  It is so pretty in real life and they come in two colors - Petal Pink and Mint Macaron. They're part of this Hand-Penned product suite.

 

 

  Here is what it looks like when you lift the flap - the four cards/envelopes and sentiments easily fit inside. I even notched it so that it would be easier to take out the cards.

 

 

  Here are the four different cards I designed. Each showcases a different pattern from this beautiful DSP.  Since some of the DSP patterns contained more Highland Heather, I cut two mats from that color card stock. For the other two I went with Mint Macaron because it is in all the DSP. I used the "mountain" side of the scored card stock on two of the cards and the "valley" side for the others just to mix things up a little.  Which is your favorite?  

 

  Here is a photo of the inside of one of the cards. I just simply stamped the large floral image on the inside using Memento Tuxedo Black ink to match the envelope for each of the cards.  

 

 

  Here are several of the sentiments from the stamp set that I cut out using the Tailored Label punch - with a few stampin' dimensionals on the back, whomever I gift this box to will be able to create a personalized cards in seconds.

 

 

  And here is one last photo of the gift box.  I am happy with the way this turned out and it is based on one I made years ago (see that post here).  I am in the process of writing up a tutorial that I will have for sale and also to gift to anyone placing a $50+ order with me during June and July.

Sunday Fun Day: Masculine Seashells card

 

  Hello and Happy Sunday!  Thanks so much for visiting today and checking out my Sunday Fun Day project for the Sisters in Stamping blog. This week we are sharing masculine projects since Father's Day is just a week away.

 

  I decided to use the Friends are like Seashells stamp set. Check out these fabulous samples and images in the Sand & Sea product suite from the January-June catalog. Great news - the stamp set and dies collection have carried over into the 2021-2022 annual catalog!!  For someone who loves the beach like I do, this is fantastic!!

 

 

   Here is another view of my card - I created the background using three of the larger shell images from the stamp set that were inked with sahara sand ink and stamped on sahara sand card stock. Once dry, I lightly misted the card stock on the unstamped side and crinkled it up to add lots of texture. Once flattened and added to the card I think it adds a lot of great texture, which is perfect for masculine cards. I love adding texture with embossing folders, but sometimes just a simple crinkle can add lots of character to a card.

 

 

  I stamped the smaller of the three shells with sahara sand ink onto this die cut that I used the Stitched So Sweetly collection to cut out, then added the sentiment with pacific point ink.   I popped it up on a thin strip of pacific point card stock and mounted it onto a pacific point card stock mat which was added to a basic white card base.  This is a quick and easy, clean and simple card - perfect for my husband!

 

 

   For the inside of my card, I stamped the medium sized shell with sahara sand, then added two sentiments using pacific point ink. 

 

 

 

   I hope I have inspired you to add some texture to your masculine cards and use a stamp set that may not necessarily be intended as a masculine one.  Don't forget to hop over to the Sisters in Stamping blog for more masculine card ideas and inspiration.
