Hello and happy Sunday!! Welcome back for another Sunday Fun Day over on the Sisters in Stamping blog. This week we designed projects featuring the Shaving Cream technique to create marbled backgrounds using reinkers. I had fun and ended up making lots of different marbled pieces for six cards. I only used two colors of reinkers, garden green and night of navy, and was able to create both masculine and feminine cards. I'll share two today, and the rest over the next two days. All cards have a piece of whisper white card stock inside that was left blank.
Here is a link to a tutorial that shows you the steps to create this marbled effect. This is a messy, but fun technique. Helpful hint - wear disposable gloves when working with this technique or your fingers will end up covered in ink! Also, I found that using a scrap piece of cardboard to scrape the shaving cream off the card stock onto a paper towel was the easiest way to keep from making a huge mess. Have a lot of paper towels on hand... did I mention this was a messy technique? But so worth the effort for the final results, wouldn't you agree?
For these first two cards I decided to go in a more masculine direction and chose to use the Sailing Home stamp set from the Annual catalog.
This marbled piece was the very first one I made, and you can tell that the colors are so much more vibrant! I wanted to really play up the gorgeous marbling so kept the card very simple with a small stamped panel. The background mat for that is a piece of night of navy cut using the Label Me Lovely punch. I stamped the anchor image with night of navy after stamping off on a scrap piece of paper as I wanted a very light image. Then I overstamped that with the sentiment using garden green ink. This was cut out using the 2" circle punch and added to the card, popped up over a thin strip of night of navy card stock.
In this view of the card you can better see the anchor in the background of the stamped piece.
For this card, the marbling reminded me of swirling water as the waves recede, so I wanted to use the lighthouse image. It is simply stamped with night of navy card stock and the "Thanks" was stamped right onto the marbled piece.
Here is another view of this card. I love how these cards turned out and am excited to share the others with you over the next few days, so please be sure to check back! And for even more great shaving cream technique card ideas and inspiration, please hop on over to the Sisters in Stamping blog.
