Quick and easy birthday card for your favorite child

Remember how I told you I loved my new redesigned color coach?  Well, my daughter Kelsey was looking at it the other day and I asked her to pick a color combination for me to try.  She decided that she really liked tangerine tango and said the Sweet Set combination looked fun - tangerine tango, so saffron and pacific point.  Those colors just screamed "kids card" to me.

 

I have had the Look Who's Turning set for a while but haven't used it so decided to pull it out and give it some love.  Don't you just think the ostrich image is too funny?!  It just cracks me up to look at it!  I grabbed my 2-3/8" scallop and 1-3/4" circle punches along with some card stock scraps and this card came together in about 10 minutes!  The tangerine tango designer paper is from the Patterns Stack brights collection - I love these, lots of DSP in these stacks!!  Super fast and super quick... my kind of card!  All I have to do to personalize it is add the age and voila - done!

Loving my new Color Coach!

 

I tend to get in a color rut, do you?  That is why I love my new Color Coach!!  I choose a main color that I want to use and then check out the color combinations on the back of the swatch of color.

 

It is really that easy!  For my card above, I wanted to use my new rich razzleberry satin ribbon that I just got so I checked out the combinations for rich razzleberry and really liked the "Getting Started" combination:  rich razzleberry, pretty in pink and early espresso.  I also wanted to use my gorgeous new Teahouse background stamp and Flores Suaves set - a stamp set in the Spanish Celebrando Creatividad catalog that I just LOVE and haven't used in a while.  The only other colors I added to the finished card were whisper white card stock for my base card and stamped panel along with pear pizzazz and crumb cake ink.

I really like how this card turned out and will be offering it as one of the cards at my September stamp-a-stack.  I purposely left it blank so that my stampers could make it any type of card they wanted by adding a sentiment to the inside of the card... what a great feminine card for a birthday, thank you, thinking of your, congratulations, get well, etc.

Fabulous Texture with Big Shot Impressions Folders!

 

Happy Friday!  This week on the Sisters in Stamping blog our product focus for Fabulous Friday is the textured impressions folder line available for use with the Big Shot.  I'm so happy that Stampin' Up! continues to add wonderful new folders with each catalog!  It is the easiest and quickest way to add fabulous texture to your paper crafting projects.

I designed the card above using the Square Lattice textured impressions folder currently found in our Summer Mini catalog and carried over into the 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog. In order to achieve this look, you first need to stamp on the card stock and then run it through the Big Shot last because once you've added the texture you'll never get a good stamped impression - it becomes too bumpy.

I used naturals ivory card stock along with soft suede ink and card stock for my card.  The main part of the card was first stamped with the En Francais background stamp and soft suede ink.  I then pulled out my Elegant Trio stencils and used the Fleur de Lis image stencil and sponged soft suede ink onto the naturals ivory card stock using a stampin' sponge.  After running this piece through the Big Shot with the square lattice folder I sponged around the edge of it with the same sponge and ink to really bring out the texture.

I wanted to turn this into a thank you card so I pulled out my Elegant Thank You single stamp from our A La Carte product line and used soft suede ink to stamp it on a piece of naturals ivory scrap piece of card stock.  I then grabbed my scallop square punch, turned it upside down and lined up the sentiment and punched it out.  Once again I sponged around the outside with soft suede ink and my stampin' sponge.  This was then popped up on the card with stampin' dimensionals and to finish off the card I added two small self-adhesive pearls from the Basic Pearls package.  I LOVE these!!

Fun Flower Folds Fabric Flowers

Fun Flower Folds Fabric Flowers - say that really fast 3 times!  Now that my kids are back in school, I finally found the time to pull out some of the fun fabric I've been hoarding for a while and created some great fabric flowers with my Big Shot and the exclusive Stampin' Up! Flower Folds Bigz XL die.

I first saw these beauties at Convention in 2009 when our CEO Shelli Gardner shared them on stage (I think she used thicker decorator fabrics).  I was awestruck by all the beautiful fabric projects that you could create with the Big Shot.  Any quilters out there - this is a FABULOUS tool for you!!

What do you think - aren't they great?!  These are all made with the 3 smallest size flowers on the die.  Although the corduroy buttons are now retired, I have a huge stash of them and wanted to use them up.  I'm making a bunch of these flowers for craft show projects later this fall.  I plan to demonstrate how to make these along with another type of fabric flower at my downline meeting next week and will share pictures of those with you later.

Here are two more that I made - the flower on the left only uses the two smallest flowers so the overall flower is smaller.  This is so fun and I made all of these flowers in about an hour!

August Stamp-a-Stack cards

I'm holding my monthly stamp-a-stack class tonight (4 cards each of 4 different designs) and wanted to share the four cards that I designed. I tend to design these relatively simple (since you have to make 4 each) and flat so that they can be easily mailed.  I always like to include one Christmas card each month starting in August so that by November's class my stampers will have had a chance to make quite a few and be ready to mail them out in early December.

Here is the first card - it features the Artistic Etchings stamp set.  I just love these stamps and used the ornate circle image with cherry cobbler ink on very vanilla card stock to create my own background paper.  I ran this piece through the Big Shot using the square lattice impression folder to add texture and sponged with crumb cake to distress it.  The main image panel was stamped with the En Francais background stamp using crumb cake ink and sponged with the same ink to age it.  I added the Eiffel Tower image in the center with early espresso ink as well as the happy birthday sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes.  The embellishment on the sentiment is one of the small pearls from the basic pearls pack - I really love these self-adhesive pearls!!  They work great any time you're using very vanilla card stock.

  

This second card is one based on my Fabulous Friday project from last week - I really liked the Lap of Luxury DSP pack along with the colors - concord crush, very vanilla, pretty in pink and basic gray.  I used my Big Shot and Curly Label Movers & Shapers bigz XL die to cut the window out of my concord crush piece of card stock which formed the base of this card.  To add some interest to the front of the card I stamped the Pretty Posy background stamp using concord crush ink.  I attached a very vanilla piece of card stock to the inside of the card and then closed the card and sponged through the window with pretty in pink ink using my stampin' sponge.  I opened the card back up and stamped an image from the hostess level 1 Silhouette Sentiments stamp set along with the Thinking of You sentiment on top of the sponged area using basic gray ink.  A strip of striped DSP from the Lap of Luxury package on a pretty in pink card stock strip were added to the front to finish the card.

This next card features the Ornate Blossom stamp - a single stamp that can be purchased that matches a smaller image from the Friends Never Fade stamp set.  I used the "To Do" list sample on page 98 of the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog as inspiration for my card.  The different parts of the stamp were colored with daffodil delight, pear pizzazz and marina mist ink using sponge daubers and my ink pads.  I finished the focal piece by stamping the birthday wishes sentiment from Sincere Salutations with chocolate chip ink and adding dazzling diamonds.  Carolyn's coming tonight and she just LOVES glitter!  Do you see the background piece - I created it using the smaller image from Friends Never Fade that matches... how cool is that?!  The card is finished off with a piece of pear pizzazz stitched-poly ribbon.

The final card is a CAS (clean and simple) Christmas card created using the Come to Bethlehem stamp set.  I stamped the main image with Versamark ink on crumb cake card stock and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  The Merry Christmas sentiment was stamped with night of navy ink and I embellished the star with a self-adhesive rhinestone from the basic rhinestones pack.  I really love the simplicity of this card.

First day of school!!!!!!

Wooo hoooooo!!  It's the first day of school for our area today... as much as I loved having my kids home all summer we were all ready for them to go back (can you relate?!).  I woke up early today to create these little 3" x 3" cards to put in their lunch boxes... with a little note inside telling them that I hoped they were having a great first day and that I loved them.  The heart, XL 2-step owl and bird punches made it really easy to put the cards together... it took me longer to glue the owl parts together than anything else!  I just mixed and matched the owl pieces using soft suede, crumb cake and early espresso card stock.  The eyes were created with punches made with whisper white card stock and googly eyes while the card base is made with daffodil delight and the tree branch (from the 2-step bird punch) is made with old olive card stock.  Cute, right?!  I just wanted to brighten their day at lunch time.

Kelsey joined her older sister Amanda at the Middle School this year... hard to believe they're in sixth and seventh grade already!  They both got cute new hair cuts to start off the school year... the chlorine from all their swim practices this summer wreaked havoc on their hair!

And here is my little man Brandon... all alone at the Elementary School this year.  He was a little nervous getting on the bus all by himself this morning but I'm sure he'll be fine as soon as he gets into his classroom!

Always card CASE

My downline Jamaica Conner designed this card for our shoe box swap team get-together earlier this summer with the Always stamp set and I really liked it.  The thing I loved most about her card was the way she created her background - she took the heart image from this set and just stamped it all over, overlapping it and turning it every which way... how clever!  I decided to CASE this card, but tweak it just a teenie bit.

 

This is what I came up with.. what do you think?  I changed the card base to marina mist (naturals ivory was used in the original card) and instead of putting the sentiment on a punch, I stamped it directly on the panel and embellished it with 1/8" marina mist taffeta ribbon.  One last finishing touch I added was a small pearl for the eye of the bird.  If you click on the photo to enlarge it you will be able to see it.

Thanks for looking - if you ever experience stampers block, please don't feel like you have to come up with an original design.  CASE'ing is a great way to use the designs of others to inspire your stamping.  Just don't forget to give proper credit when you do so!
