Happy Friday!! This week over on the Sisters in Stamping blog we are using water as our inspiration for our Fabulous Friday projects. I decided to create a watercolored card since I haven't pulled out my aqua painters in a while. The Birthday Blooms stamp set has this gorgeous flower image that is perfect for coloring. The card is very simple with just a mat of always artichoke card stock and a textured background that features the Seaside impressions folder (another nod to water, right?!). After running it through the Big Shot, I sponged the texture with a stampin' sponge and crumb cake ink to make it pop and finished it off with some linen thread.
Here is a close-up of the flower - I inked the image with jet black StazOn ink onto watercolor paper. The center of the flower is colored with crushed curry ink and I colored the petals with new In Color flirty flamingo ink. While it was still wet, I went over the parts I wanted shaded with rose red ink. The leaves were colored with always artichoke ink and shaded with garden green ink. The watercolor paper is very forgiving... some of the flirty flamingo color bled into the always artichoke on the leaves but I was able to blot it with a paper towel so it isn't as noticeable. If you haven't used an aqua painter, they are AWESOME!! I keep a paper towel close by to clean my brush as I change inks. It's best to color with the lightest inks first, moving your way to the darker colors. This is my favorite way to color an outline image!!
Here's one more view of the card. For even more water inspiration please be sure to hop over to the Sisters in Stamping blog to check out what the other designers created this week.
